What is microphlebectomy?

Microphlebectomy (also called ambulatory phlebectomy) removes varicose veins that bulge just under the skin. It’s done in our office under local numbing, through tiny openings that usually don’t need stitches.

How it works

1. Marking. The bulging veins are marked on your skin while you stand.
2. Numbing. The area around the veins is numbed.
3. Removal. Through tiny openings, small sections of the vein are gently removed.
4. Done. Small strips or a bandage and a compression wrap or stocking go on, and you walk out.

Who it’s for

It’s used for bulging surface veins that you can see and feel. It’s often paired with VenaSeal, ClosureFast, or Varithena, which close the leaking vein underneath that caused the bulging.

After treatment

• Most people are back to normal activity within 1–2 days
• You’ll wear a compression wrap or stocking for a short time
• Bruising and some tenderness are common and fade over a few weeks
• The tiny openings usually heal with little visible marking
