Spider vein treatment in Honolulu, with care and aloha
Spider veins are small red, blue, or purple veins near the skin’s surface. Our team will help you understand whether they are cosmetic, related to an underlying vein problem, or both.

What are spider veins?
Spider veins are tiny blood vessels near the surface of the skin that have widened. They often branch out like a web or show up as fine lines, usually on the thighs, calves, and around the ankles. Doctors call them telangiectasias.
What causes them?
Spider veins often run in families. They’re more common with age, with hormone changes such as pregnancy, and in people who stand for long periods.
Cosmetic or medical?
Spider veins on their own are usually a cosmetic concern. But if you also have aching, swelling, heaviness, or varicose veins, there may be a leaking vein underneath. A painless ultrasound can check, and if there is a deeper problem, Dr. Yeo may recommend treating it first.
How spider veins are treated
Sclerotherapy is the standard treatment. A very fine needle places a medicine into the small veins. They seal, then fade over the following weeks as your body clears them.
At Aloha Vein we use ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy. Ultrasound lets Dr. Yeo also see and treat the feeder veins beneath the skin, which can help when spider veins keep coming back. Most people need a short series of sessions for the best result.
- Each session takes about 15–30 minutes
- Usually no numbing is needed
- You can return to normal activity the same day
- Compression stockings may be recommended for a short time afterward
Bruising or temporary darkening along the treated veins can happen and usually fades with time.
For many patients, ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy is a quick in-office option. If your symptoms or ultrasound suggest deeper vein disease, we will explain that clearly and guide you toward the right next step.
Is it covered by insurance?
Treatment for spider veins alone is usually considered cosmetic, so insurance typically doesn’t cover it. Call or text us for current pricing. If an ultrasound shows a deeper vein problem, that part of your care may be covered. More about insurance.
