Vein treatment questions, answered

Plain answers to the questions we hear most. Don’t see yours? Call or text us at 808.538.1905.

Does vein treatment hurt?

Most patients describe treatment as very manageable. You may feel brief pressure or a pinch from numbing medicine, and some mild soreness afterward is possible. Treatments are done in the office with local anesthesia, not general anesthesia, and most people walk out on their own. We will explain what to expect before your procedure and make sure your questions are answered.

How do I know if I need treatment or if it’s just cosmetic?

Aching, heaviness, swelling, cramping, or skin changes point to a medical problem. A painless ultrasound shows whether your vein valves are leaking. Spider veins with no symptoms are usually cosmetic.

Will my insurance cover it?

When vein disease causes symptoms such as pain, heaviness, swelling, cramping, or skin changes, treatment may be considered medically necessary. We accept most major health insurance plans, but not Kaiser or UHA. We verify benefits before your visit and explain the next steps as clearly as we can. Coverage depends on your plan, symptoms, and ultrasound findings. More about insurance and cost.

How soon can I go back to work?

Most patients return to normal activity the same day. We recommend walking afterward and may ask you to wear compression stockings for a short time.

Do varicose veins come back after treatment?

A treated vein stays closed. New veins can develop over time, because vein disease can be hereditary. Follow-up visits help catch changes early.

I live on a neighbor island. Can I be seen at Aloha Vein?

Yes. We care for patients from every island at our Honolulu clinic. Start with a free vein screening call, and we’ll help you plan your visits around your travel.

Is parking free?

Yes. Parking is free for patients at our clinic at 1650 Liliha Street, Suite 101.

Do I need a referral?

Some insurance plans require a referral from your primary care provider. Call or text us with your plan details and we’ll let you know what yours needs.
