What is ClosureFast?

ClosureFast is a radiofrequency ablation treatment for larger leg veins with leaking valves. A thin catheter gently heats the vein wall, which makes the vein close. Blood then reroutes through healthy veins nearby, and the closed vein is gradually absorbed by the body.

How it works

  1. Mapping. We use ultrasound to find the faulty vein and plan the treatment.
  2. Numbing. A numbing solution is placed along the vein, so you stay comfortable and awake.
  3. Closing the vein. Guided by ultrasound, a thin catheter is placed in the vein and warms the vein wall with radiofrequency energy, section by section, as it’s withdrawn.
  4. Done. The catheter is removed, a small bandage goes on, and you walk out.

Before treatment, we explain what to expect, answer your concerns, and make sure you feel informed and comfortable throughout your visit.

Who it’s for

ClosureFast is used for larger veins that no longer work properly, often the source of varicose veins, aching, and swelling. Dr. Yeo recommends it after reviewing your ultrasound, and explains how it compares with VenaSeal and Varithena for your veins.

After treatment

  • Walk out on your own and return to normal activity the same day
  • Walking is encouraged
  • You’ll usually wear a compression stocking for a short time
  • Some tightness, tenderness, or bruising along the vein can happen and usually fades

Insurance

When vein disease causes symptoms such as pain, heaviness, swelling, cramping, or skin changes, treatment may be considered medically necessary. Coverage depends on your plan and clinical findings. We check your coverage before your visit. More about insurance and cost.
